「フエルサブルータ」FUERZA BRUTA TOKYO
So there was this Japanesque show I had seen across my social media which looked pretty fun, yet I wasn’t sure if the ticket price was really worth it.
I am talking about FUERZA BRUTA – an international show which actually changes its looks and concept based on its host country.
2 days after I checked the website and contemplated (it was almost creepy) I noticed my friends setting up an event titled as “Let’s go and see FUERZA BRUTA in kimono”.
As an extra motivation boost there happened to be an extra “Fan day” where the ticket price was just a third! I am sure you guessed it already – I signed up instantly!
What could possibly be more fun than hitting up a party with your local kimono squad?
ソーシャルメディアで取り上げられてるとても面白そうな日本風のショーがあった。チケットの値段に見合った価値があるかどうかわからないでいました。そう、「フエルサブルータ」です。開催国にあわせてコンセプトを変える国際ショーです。
2日ほどまよってたんだけど、友達が「フエルサブルータに着物で行こう！」というイベントを企画してるのを知って、決めちゃいました。しかも、チケット価格は定価の3分の一だった。着物友達と一緒にイベントに行くのは最高だよね！
Said and done. The day came and due to previous experience, we were advised to either wear a yukata (summer kimono made of cotton) or polyester kimono. Apparently there was a waterfall coming down in the middle of the crowd which would soak you completely and otherwise due to all the people and dancing the room tends to get quite hot and moist as well. Since it’s Winter and the temperatures didn’t really motivate me to go as far as wearing a yukata, I went with the lazy option of wearing my denim kimono on top of a turtle neck. (I was still freezing outside haha).
In the hallway we stuffed our belongings in the coin lockers, got a drink and waited for the gates to open. The cool projection mapping videos at the entrance made me even more excited. Once the gates opened, I was super surprised to not have the expected view of a concert hall but we found ourselves in a corridor of cloth, a bit like a maze, from which you could pick a “room” to wait in. I had no idea if we were close to the stage or what would happen but it was super exciting and different to just trot into a big hall and wait in front of the stage.
After a while the big family crest on the “ceiling” of our cloth room started to flash in red color and the whole room/tunnel construction was pulled up to slightly reveal the stage and taiko player on it while covering us again and giving us repeated glimpses..
I was already hooked!
当日、これまでの様子から浴衣かポリエステルの着物を着てくるようにアドバイスされました。客席に水が降ってきてびしょびしょになるとか、お客さんがダンスとかして熱気や湿気につつまれるとかって聞いてました。とはいえ、もう冬だったので浴衣は着たくなかった。寒いよね。タートルネックの上にデニム着物を着ていくことにした。（これでもまだ寒かった！ 笑）
会場には荷物を預けるコインロッカーがあって、持ち物はそこへ。飲み物をゲットして、会場があくまで待機。入り口にはプロジェクションマッピング（流行の！）があって、とても興奮しました。会場が開いてなにがびっくりしたかというと、コンサートホールみたいな広いところを想像してたんだけど、実際は、カーテンで仕切られた通路みたいなところだった。布の通路でつながったいくつかの待合室があるイメージ （わかる？ 汗）。布で天井と周りがかこまれてるから自分が会場のステージの近くなのかどの辺りにいるかもわからない。大きな会場に入る感覚とはちがって、面白かった。
それからちょっとして、家紋のついた天井部分の布が赤く光りだして、周りを囲っている布がゆーくりと、上に引き上げられた。。と思ったら、また下がる。上がり下がりする布の隙間から時々ステージと太鼓奏者がみえる・・・。面白い！
The whole show kept us in awe with people flying through the air, jumping through walls, women in kimono upside down in a wind canal, Ninja falling down from the roof etc.
We were lucky to end up quite in front of the stage, however the whole concept is so interactive that you will have a great time wherever you stand, as there are small stages pulled through the crowd or even a water tank like ceiling will be lowered where people literally play around in water above your head.
ショーはサプライズづくし。空中を飛んだり、壁を突き抜けたり（みないと分からないかも 笑）、着物の女の子たちがぐるぐる回って（ますます分からないよね？ 笑）、（もちろん！）忍者が屋根から降りてきたり。
ステージのほぼまん前でみれてラッキーだったけど、いろいろな方向からショーが行われるから、どこにいても、楽しいと思うよ。山車型ステージが会場の真ん中にでてきたり、水の入ったタンクが天井から下りてきて、お客さんが触れるくらいのところまできたり・・。
This was probably the best show I have ever seen. (No, I am not sponsored!)
Just the creativity of making a completely new show concept had me standing with my mouth wide open. All the lighting, music and as a foreigner I just loved loved loved the Japanese aesthetics especially because they were so cool and badass – far from the over consumed “kawaii” Japan.
Originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina it is no wonder that the vibes had everyone dancing.
Enough of me talking though. Let’s have a look at the visuals. (Sorry for the quality, since I was scared of getting my camera wet I did not dare to bring my big one. False alarm though because there was only one tiny spot where you could take a waterfall shower.)
ショーにもいろんなタイプがあるけど、ショーでの一体感から言えば、これまでで最高のショーだった（注：広告記事ではありませんよ 笑）。
こんなショーを考え出す創造力には感嘆しました。照明、音楽、海外からの視点で、（よく使われる「カワイイ文化」とはちがった、）日本の哲学ってかっこよくて、すばらしいなと思ってしまいました。
もともとはアルゼンチンのブエノスアイレスのショーなので、みんな踊りたくなるのは当たり前だね。
説明はこんな感じで、あとは写真をみてみてね。手持ちの防水カメラで、あんまり写真の質はよくないかも。水濡れを警戒して、いいカメラは今回はお休み。毎回なのか分からないけど、ちなみに水濡れは、基本無かったよ。会場の本の一部が、水しぶきを浴びる程度だった。

And since it was a fan event we took a huge group picture.
When we had our tickets checked earlier upon arrival, everyone received a small card with a Japanese family crest on it. We were asked to keep it until the end of the show. I noticed that I had the crest of a Samurai family while everyone else seemed to have one other crest.
After the show the meaning of the cards was revealed and it was announced that only 8 out of the 300? 500? people had the samurai crest and would win a booklet with the signatures of all the performers. I never win anything usually so I was stoked!!
And the funny thing is that out of all people actually 3 of our kimono group won! If that wasn’t kimono power!

開会前にチケットのチェックが終わったタイミングで、みんな夫々家紋のはいったカードを渡されて、ショーの終わりまでとっておいてほしいといわれます。わたしのは武家の家紋（真田？）だった。
終了後、「300人（か500人？）中8人は武家の家紋のカードをもっており、出演者全員の直筆サインの入った本をもらえる」ってアナウンスが！くじ運のない私が当たった！！
着物グループの中に3人も当選者があり、これは着物パワーでしょうということになった。

2018年3月6日までの間で東京にいるならまだやってるよ。コンセプトは毎回ちょっと違うからリピートもありだね！
