Day 13

Today we also kept winding through the mountains usually along a big road and / or river.
It was super hot – about 29℃ and the sun burned mercilessly down on us.

The “Ono waterfall” was so beautiful that we stopped for a quick picnic there.
Yesterday’s bar granny gave us this local specialty – houba-zushi – some rice with veggie and egg topping wrapped in a leaf.

Since we could not find a single hotel on this long long stretch we decided to power walk as fast as our feet carry us to get all the way to the next place with hotels. (Which is about 38 km?)
However the next “post town” is quite deep in the mountains that if it gets dark it would be dangerous plus there was an announcement of bear sightings so my husband wasn’t happy.. Also his foot hurted so much that he couldn’t make it further so we waited for the local train to drive one station to Nagiso and then take the last bus from there (10 min drive?)
So we skipped 9 km in total today which I’m not happy about- as I want to say that i walked the whole Nakasendo 🙁 But oh well..

We are at Tsumago-juku and to me it looks even more charming than Narai-juku. The Ryokan we stay at is breathtaking!! Very old and our rooms are connected via a bridge outside with pond and all.

Walked distance:
27.7 km
Kiso-Fukushima to Tsumago

27.7 km

Money spent:
Konbini: 370¥
Lunch: 1050¥
Dinner: 1200¥
Bus: 600¥
Hotel: 11000¥
= 14220¥

Thoughts:
Good: My feet seem fully functional and powerful again! Yay!
Bad: The better half is bored and tired and wants to go home 🙁
