Day 12

My foot felt even better this morning. We started in the crisp blue sky and headed straight for the mountain Torii-toge. Compared to the first big mountain Usui-toge this one was pretty breezy to get through.

Drinkable water from the mountain / feels like garden Eden!

After the hike we passed all the way through the mountains down to Kiso-Fukushima – a lovely town along the river.

…and!!! We hit a milestone today:

We passed the middle point of the Nakasendo!
That means we did more than the half now.

We went to a local izakaya bar here called “chikara” and the granny there was super chatty and fun. We ended up getting some free pickles and after hearing about our wedding anniversary last week she surprised us with a dessert plate to celebrate (all on the house!!)
We were really moved!

On the way back to the hotel we also came across a local festival. I really start loving this area because it feels much more warm and free spirited than Tokyo and other areas. A great experience.
