Day 21

I’ll start today’s diary with a rant, because my husband keeps getting up around 5 or so every day to do some work on his laptop (yes he brought his heavy laptop on the journey)…
He also types or more like hacks around on the keyboard or moves around in the room which completely cuts my sleep. And he did that almost every day since the second part of the trip and I’m just so sleepy. This morning I was close to beat him up with my pillow. Hahaha.

Neither less we got out and started at yesterday’s point Musa-juku.
The sun was merciless again and while I was dying in my thick jersey jacket (because I need long sleeves to protect me from sunburn) I finally grasped why it was feeling so much hotter than last week when we actually had 34℃ – the humidity is up!! That’s why I’m suffering even at lower temperatures..
When we took a rest I changed my drenched shirt with a thin long sleeve tee I actually packed for colder days and that was much better.

We walked down to Kusatsu and reached the point where the Nakasendo and the Toukaido (route to Edo via ocean routes) meet each other.
The lamp sais “Toukaido to the right, Nakasendo to the left”.
So after this point we are practically walking the Toukaido to Kyoto..

We kept going until Seta today (about 6 km south of Kusatsu).

Walked distance:
26.2 km
Musa-juku to Seta

Money spent:
Train: 340¥
Lunch: 1760¥
Konbini: 300¥
Dinner: 2125¥
Hotel: 7000¥
= 11625¥

Today’s thoughts:
Good: Walked without problems.
Bad: It was super hot again. Walking in summer must have been almost unbearable in the past.
