Fashion Week Tokyo AW16/17 – NGUYEN CONG TRI
On Tuesday I was invited to see the -Japan meets Vietnamese fashion- runway show with featured Vietnamese fashion designer Nguyen Cong Tri.
I chose a casual outfit consisting of a snug Hoodie worn below a mens kimono with Hokusai wave print and Dr.Martens boots.

To be honest I went there with rather low expectations (you know, usually the more famous designers show their collections later on the day). Or lets put it this way: I did not know what to expect really.
When the show started, a video of the production process of the clothing was shown. Details of hand woven fabric and assembly in Vietnam. Well so far so good.
But when the first models came down the runway I was speechless!!
According to the designer itself, the collection is inspired by female Vietnamese farmers working out in the fields and wearing a traditional Vietnamese outfit.
He also used the rather rare Lanh My A silk, a national treasure of Vietnam.
The whole collection was so elegant and minimalist, yet had breathtaking details everywhere. It does not happen very often, but I wanted EVERYTHING from this collection. Most exquisite materials, cuts and handmade details everywhere.
I am a new fan! Nguyen Cong Tri!
Better keep an eye on this creative mastermind.
(Apologies for the pictures not showing the real beauty – it was too dark to take very good pictures.)
I was also glad to see my friend Nicola from tiredoftokyo again!
Bye for now,
Anji
