A one of a kind bag, refurbished via the "hiki-ikkan" method of pasting Japanese washi paper and laquer in consistent layers on top of bamboo or rattan. This craft with its roots in 17 century China, has been carried on by farmers, who repaired their baskets that way during the off-season.
This way older bags and faulty ukiyoe wood block prints, which otherwise would have been thrown away, can be re-used and restored. The washi is treated with "kakishibu" - an extract from the persimmon fruit which makes the paper sturdy and waterproof, as well as with an additional top coat, making the bag resistant against weather and eliminate maintenance needs.
This is a handcrafted item and one of a kind by the artist HANYI_YA.
