JOTARO SAITO AW16 Collection Up Close

A couple of days ago my friend Kumiko invited me to check out the JOTARO SAITO AW16/17 kimono collection up close.
Now we both saw these beautiful pieces on the runway at Tokyo Fashion Week – but it’s a big difference to actually see them close and being able to touch the fabrics.

今週は友達の久美子さんに誘って頂いて、JOTARO SAITOの新コレクションを近くから見たり触ったりことができました。ランウェイショーで見るのは素晴らしいけど、やはり手にとって見るのは違いますね。☆

My kimono coordinate was dark and cool.
A black silk komon with ships paired with an antique haori jacket and a modern python print obi from Rumi Rock.
The tabi socks and kanzashi (in my obi) are made by myself.

まずは着物コーデの紹介ですね♪
斉藤さんのスタイルと合わせたダークなコーデ。船柄の黒い小紋、アンティークの椿長羽織とRumi Rockのモダンなパイソンプリントの半幅帯です。レトロ電話の足袋と帯に挿してある簪は手作りです。

When I entered the shop I was greeted by my name which was a lovely experience. (Kumiko had arranged an appointment so they knew we were coming!)
The store manager and her assistant were both very warm and welcoming and after a small chat I could get the chance to look around. Before I could even calm down I was asked which kimono I’d like to try.
What? Try? OMG YES! I scrolled through my phones photo album, looking at the collection photos I shot from the runway and selected my first kimono.
A vibrant silk komon in green and blue. Jotaro Saito designed some of its pieces to be worn in a new way – with the obi blending in with the same design.
That was something really new, because the obi always should be in contrasting colors..
But I loved this new approach.

お店に入った瞬間「アンジーですか？」との声をきいて、始めての経験でした。（久美子さんは予約の時、私の名前を伝えたらしいです。）
店長の中川さんと中村さんはとても優しくて気さくな感じでした。新コレクションをこんなに近くで見れてもうワクワクでしたが「好きな着物着てみませんか？」と聞かれてら「エエーっ！いいんですか？？」みたいにテンション上がりました。（笑）
選んだのは好きな青と緑色の藤の花などの絹でできたお着物です。斉藤さんの新しいアイディアで帯と着物の柄は一緒になるのコーデで着させて頂きました。♡

Afterwards I could pick another kimono to try.
This time I selected a rater monotone silk kimono in marble like black/grey and white and we paired it with a wine red obi with the fun zebra artwork.

次は少し落ち着いた色の着物を選びました。石みたいなマーブル白黒の着物とワインレッドの帯の組み合わせです。
素敵ですね？

My friend Kumiko actually got caught up in so many appointments that she joined me a little later.
She selected this grey and black geometric piece which was woven in these pattern, not dyed!

友達の久美子さんはこのグレーベースの着物を選びました。珍しくこのデザインは織った後に染色するのではなくて、元々色のついた糸で織ることで模様を作っているみたいです。

My final choice was to try one of Jotaro Saitos famous jersey kimono. Black was already sold out so I went with wine red instead.
And I can’t even explain in words how comfortable this experience was. This stretchy fabric is so nice to wear and even makes your body silhouette even more defined.
When thinking of jersey it may sound a little too casual for kimono, however his fabrics had a slight leather like look to it and an invisible pattern so it doesn’t really look like jersey.

最後に着てみたのは斉藤さんの有名なジャージー着物です。黒はもう完売でしたので、ダークな赤を選んだ。
ジャージーの着物って素晴らしい！！　すごく気持ち良いですし、ボディーラインもとてもスマートになります。毎日に着たいくらいの良さです。
ジャージーって少しやすっぽいイメージですけど、斉藤さんはデザインした生地は少し皮みたいな感じですし、色無地的な柄も入ってるので、ジャージーには見えません。

Something I found out during my visit was, that there are only a very small number of items being made for each collection. That means that in a few days after the show, some popular kimono or accessories had already been sold out – and they will not be reproduced again! That means if you see something you like on their fashion show, you will have to be quick.

そして、始めて知ったのは：コレクションのアイテムは大変少ない数で作ってるので、発売から人気のアイテムはすぐにも完売になるらしいです。早もん勝ちですね！

I really wanted to have some JOTARO SAITO item in my collection, so I treated myself to these lovely and heavenly soft black leather tabi.

自分のコレクションにもJOTARO SAITOの作品を入れたくて、とっても柔らかな本革の足袋を買っちゃいました♡
わー　嬉しい！

Can’t wait to see future designs!
