The kimono kid x SALZ Tokyo
Last month I had an incredibly fun crossover collaboration with my dear friend Sasa from New York.
Sasa is the head and creator behind the kimono kid and hand makes custom order kimono items in her atelier in Brooklyn.
She does everything from scratch, taking the customers wishes and measurements, designs, hand dyes, cuts and sows kimonos, kimono jackets and anything wafuku you like in her studio.
Only high quality locally US made denim or fabric, or else carefully sourced vintage kimono fabric from Japan is used for her pieces. Touching her creations in person had me stunned – her work is so detailed and well made. Truly beautiful.
As Sasa announced that she will be back in Tokyo for a bit, I thought it would be a fun idea to do a crossover collab where she dresses me in one of her hand made the kimono kid kimono while I style and dress her in one of SALZ Tokyo’s vintage items which I sell through my shop.
Since she hadn’t seen the scenic town called Kawagoe (called small Edo, due to its preserved beautiful traditional buildings) not far from Tokyo, I thought it would be a lovely idea to take our photoshoot there.
Sasa is wearing an antique yellow silk komon kimono paired with antique Nagoya obi, I am wearing her blue mens kimono made of super soft U.S. denim.
Handmade accessories made of tasmanian wood were sponsored by the Australian brand Under the Shade of a Bonsai Tree.
I think they are just gorgeous with the denim kimono.

See you soon, Sasa!
