「桜と黒装の宴」Black Kimono Event Tokyo

I am super behind with posting about events and kimono styles but am trying to catch up now.. Today I want to show you a fun event I participated in April.

It was called like “Cherry Blossom and Dark fashion” and a casual meet-up of kimono enthusiasts in the Shinjuku Gyoen (Park) in Tokyo. The idea was to create a fun contrast with black kimono to the pink and white cherry blossom which was blooming that time.

今日は４月に参加した楽しい着物イベントについて書きたい。

「桜と黒装の宴」と言う名前で素晴らしいスタイルの着物好きな方は新宿御苑で集まりました。ピンクや白の可愛いらしい桜と素敵なコントラストになる黒い着物を着るのはルールでした。

As always when you attend an event without knowing anyone, I was super nervous what kind of people would be waiting for me.. (Some Japanese may judge you for wearing kimono slightly modern or not as the “rules” ask you to.)

But this was the coolest kimono crowd I have ever met! Such a unique and creative style! Really refreshing.

仲間はほぼ居ないイベントを参加すると、かなり緊張するよね？

着物の世界はとくに、ルールは多いし、厳しい目で見る人もいますのでドキドキしてました。（笑）・・と！皆さんはとても優しく、素晴らしいそしてクリエイティブな着物姿ばかりでした。嬉しかったです。そして今まで一番楽しいイベントでしたかも。

I really enjoy how everyone has their own style and taste and how much a kimono can vary in style just by adding some accessories. Doesn’t everyone look so amazing?

I chose a kurotomesode (黒留袖) kimono which usually is only worn by the mother of a bride at the wedding or similar important events. (I think this rule can be broken though, because these black kimono are way too stunning to be locked away in the closet.)

This kurotomesode has gold and silver hand embroidered koi carp and I paired it with a metallic green Nagoya obi (名古屋帯) tied in the kouken (後見) or chidori (千鳥) musubi. I chose yellow accessories to match my hair.

私の着物コーデ：

刺繍の鯉柄の黒留袖をメタリックなグリーン名古屋帯と合わせました。初めて後見結びをやってみました。まだ完璧ではないですね〜

小物は黄色い髪色と合わせて選びました。足袋はJOTARO SAITOの本革アイテムです。バッグはヴィンテージ。
