「着物撮影ニューヨーク」Kimono photo shoots in NYC

For my duration in New York I also organized some fun kimono photo shoots with the city as a back drop.

The first shoot was with the personality Candy Ken who is a singer and model with a strong message for gender equalization and freedom of expressing yourself. He loves Hello Kitty and pink items and strives to draw attention in order to spread a positive message worldwide.
Although he doesn’t live in New York our schedules magically matched up and I dressed him in Robe Japonica, a funky and loud mens kimono brand originating in Harajuku. Seeing the designs I was sure he would love it.

Hold on to your seat, because it’s getting a bit colorful and wild!

ちょっとニューヨークへ行ってきました（笑）
ニューヨークでは、「もちろん着物の写真を撮らなきゃ！」と思いまして、摩天楼・ビッグアップルを景色にした撮影をプロヂュースしました。友達のパーソナリティー（タレントDJていうのかな？）「キャンディーケン」が偶然にも同じタイミングでニューヨークにいましたので、いつもと少し違うカラフルな着物撮影してきました。キャンディーケンはピンク好きでハローキティの大ファンですので、わたしも注目してるポップなメンズ着物ブランド「ローブジャポニカ」の商品を選択しました。

この撮影はキャンディーケンに合わせたスタイリングですので少し（？）特別でカラフルになりました。

For another shoot I was able to lend fabulous items from traditional yet cool kimono brand Rumi Rock. For a while I had this idea of a 70’s roller skate disco girl in my head and wanted to pair it with a fun kimono.
As a location I picked the slightly more industrial Brooklyn borough.

The yukata has a retro inspired print and was perfect. In order to skate freely and show over knee socks I hiked the kimono up like a mini dress.
Paired with the fabulous and sparkly roller skate bag by Betsey Johnson and the bubble gum pink hair of the model everything came together perfectly.

Let’s roll!

以前から1970sのディスコローラーガール風の着物スタイリングをしてみたくて、着物ブランド「ルミロック」にご協力をお願いしました。レトロ感のある浴衣とギラギラの帯をスケートと合わせて大満足！☆
ちゃんとスケートできるように、浴衣の丈を短く着せ、ハイソックスでコントラスト入れてみました。
モデルさんのピンクヘアー（地毛だよ）とベッツィージョンソンのロラースケートバックでさらに注目！（笑）

Before returning to Tokyo, photographer Jun Suenaga asked me if we should have a small shoot, so I tried to do some alternative style by wearing a lace kimono on top of a vintage blouse and tights.
Paired with a funky hair style and accessories like cute red leather gloves by Moschino I had a lot of fun on a private rooftop.

東京へ帰る前、写真家・撮影者Suenaga Junさんとプチ撮影してきました。マンハッタンでのプライベート屋上にモダンなミックス着物コーディネートを考えてみた。レース着物をファンキーなヴィンテージの上に羽織って、ベルトで締めました。モスキーノのレザー手袋はニューヨークで購入したばかりだけどピッタリでした（笑）
